Adventure Boudoir in the Texas Mountains

Laura and I traveled through Texas and New Mexico last month for the solar eclipse. Our actual eclipse experience was a little disappointing - a giant cloud drifted through four seconds after totality! - but we were able to spend some quality time exploring a part of the country we really haven’t seen before.

Among the highlights was Big Bend National Park. We’ve spent some time hiking the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, but the Chihuahuan Desert in Texas was a very different experience. Big Bend felt like a real jewel, with a surprising variety of landscapes: the lowlands around the Rio Grande were completely different from the high reaches of the Chisos Mountains.

Unsurprisingly, the mountains were the highlight for us. (The river was cool, with hot springs and javelinas and neat ruins, but the mountains just felt more comfortable. We’re mountain people!) We were able to spend a night in the backcountry on the south rim, where we had a campsite with a spectacular view of the Rio Grande river valley into Mexico. The evening sky was stunning, and since we rolled into camp early enough (for once!) to enjoy it, Laura and I decided to shoot a few silhouettes against the setting sun.

We love exploring the outdoors, and there’s something really compelling about creating beautiful art in isolated landscapes at the end of a great hike. Landscape nudes are one of my favorite types of photography, and I’m always happy when I can incorporate that style into a boudoir session.

I’m still editing the set, but so far I like the vintage color treatment with a muted blue sky and the dark orange of the sun. I’ll post more to our galleries when I get them wrapped up!
